Leon Marie Esprit Walras (1834-1910) was a Swiss economist.
He was born on December 16, 1834 in Evreux, France.
Early Life and Career
Walras initially attended the School of Mines in Paris but left after a year. He attempted to pursue a literary career before eventually working for commercial firms starting in 1858.
Establishment of a Bank and Journal
In 1865, Walras co-founded a bank with Leon Say that provided credit to production cooperatives.
Around the same time, he also started publishing the journal "Le Travail" ("Work"). However, both ventures had to be closed three years later.
